One of the three red hens (all known as Henrietta) died yesterday. She'd seemed fine, then the next time I went into the barn she was dead.
There were no signs of foul play.

One of the three red hens (all known as Henrietta) died yesterday. She'd seemed fine, then the next time I went into the barn she was dead.

Sorry to hear about Henrietta. You can't help but become attached when you feed and care for critters every day. Plus, chickens are interesting and comical when you get to know them and their personalities. I've shed some tears for them, too. Hope all your other critters are doing well.

I say that's the way to go. Years on the farm happily a-laying. Then without warning, done. I will remember Henrietta with an omelet for dinner.
Sorry to hear about that, Jo. Could it be a parasite or fungus or some congenital abnormality? Or just one of those things?
